AACN Nursing Essentials

Also known as The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing

Practice, this document provides the educational framework for the preparation of nurses for

their practice as practitioners and as healthcare providers. It provides the directives so that nurses

can provide a holistic caring framework in their approach. It prepares them as members of

discipline practice and reflects expectations across nursing education trajectories. In addition, it

provides them with theoretical experience and applied practice. Furthermore, AACN Essentials

define the quality of nursing education since they outline the curriculum content and the

expected competencies of the graduates from the Baccalaureate masters and doctors program.

The essentials are critical in many core areas in healthcare provision. They include

clinical prevention, policy and advocacy, safety and quality, collaboration, informatics, and

evidence-based health training. The foremost essential includes liberal education for

Baccalaureate Generalist Nursing Practice (Giddens, Douglas & Conroy, 2022). This will aid in

providing a cornerstone for the education and healthcare practice of nurses. This education can

foster wide-ranging knowledge in science, cultures, and society. This will be imperative since it

will create an active commitment to personal and social responsibilities. In my nursing program,

I was able to apply this principle when I was in clinical rounds and faced with a challenge when

attending to a patient. The abundant knowledge source provided a reference source to solving the

challenge based on clinical evidence witnessed.

The second AACN Essential is Basic organization and systems leadership. This is

imperative in ensuring that nurses provide high-quality healthcare services and ensure patient

safety (Giddens, Douglas & Conroy, 2022). This is through an emphasis on leadership skills
