Analyze the origins of the French Revolution. What were the long-term and the short-term causes of this revolution? How did various groups, such as the nobility, bourgeoisie, workers, and peasants, gain or lose from the events of 1789-1799? How does Dickens help us to understand the Revolution? Reading the novel alerts one to the diverse values by which people lived and makes one conscious of things about us. The novel also deals with the individual in conflict with his/her environment, with the positive and negative values of revenge, with the conflict between duty and desire, between honor and dishonor. Discuss.
