Benjamin Franklin famously wrote in 1736 that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” He was specifically referring to fire prevention then, but the saying is now used for any situation where it is easier/cheaper/better to try to stop something from happening rather than to deal with a situation’s aftermath.

For this assignment, write a persuasive essay on a current-events topic which is framed through the wisdom of Franklin’s quote. (Possible topics include vaccinations to prevent disease, changing building codes to prevent damage from natural disasters, improving education and job training to prevent unemployment or crime, etc.) Topics should not be of a religious nature, and all sources should be reputable.

Your completed essay should be about 1-1/2 to 3 pages in length, plus a Works Cited page with at least two or three sources.
