Instructions For this assignment: Assume the role of an educational leader. Then, consider how you would handle these four practical situations:

Situation 1

Ms. Colora, a teacher of an eighth-grade class comes to your office during third period. She indicates that Johnnie is under the influence of some sort. Ms. Colora said Johnnie had his head on his desk for most of the class and when he was walking out of class, he stumbled, spoke loudly, and laughed. What should you do?

Situation 2

It is 6 a.m. and you receive a call on your cell phone from your head custodian. You are informed that while he was cleaning the boy’s bathroom on the second floor, he spotted graffiti on the wall over the sink. In red ink, the message read: Beware…! Ka-BOOM Today Period 4. You call the police to investigate and they meet you at the school while you are pulling into the parking lot. You notice students are arriving, and you know the buses will arrive any minute. You tell the custodian to lock the building. You, the police sergeant and custodian meet outside. As the educational leader of the building, the police officer turns to you and says, “It looks like someone is playing a joke.” Then, the officer asks you what you would like to do? Please outline your steps from this point. What do you do?

Situation 3

At the Green Street High School, there are several false fire alarms at the beginning of Period 7. During the past week, students have pulled the fire alarm at the beginning of Period 7. Once students exit the building, it takes approximately 20 minutes for the fire department to come and clear the building. The building is cleared at the beginning of Period 8; however, before you can allow the students to re-enter the building, they must go through the school’s metal detector; this is a process that takes 20 minutes. As the educational leader, do you dismiss the students once they are outside? What steps do you take to stop this intentional abbreviated day the students have created? What do you do?

Situation 4

The local water company informs you on Tuesday evening that there is a large water main break in the neighborhood of your school and the water flow to the school will be minimal for the next two days. When you consult with your head custodian, you are informed that the toilets are operational, but the main water supply to your school is shut down. What do you do?
