This is an article written by the National Academy of Sciences. This article is intended to inform the parents, the public, teachers, and single parents who lost their significant other. It is a report that discusses how a loss of a parent can affect the child, the stages of grief, and how it will affect the child’s development process. This faculty wants to enlighten people about how vulnerable children can be to psychological problems after the death of a parent. The information they provide can greatly affect the outcome of these tragic events. The information and advice could positively affect children of single-parent households due to the death of a parent by encouraging the surviving parent to still provide and support their child even though they experienced the same traumatic event. The effects of this can greatly promote a better outcome for the child and parent involved but on the other hand even with the parent being the primary source of support the child may suffer great changes in behavior and emotion.
