Write a 1-page letter, as Sigmund Freud, in which you respond to and rebuff Adler’s approach to psychoanalysis.

Then, answer each of the following questions: What are some major areas of contrast between Freud’s and Adler’s theories?

Which perspective appeals to you more, and why?

When you look at Adler’s life experiences and the development of his theory, what do you conclude?

To what degree do you think it is possible to separate the theory from the theorist?

What are some ways that the Adlerian approach can be applied to group counseling?

What are some advantages of using a group format with this approach? What concepts from the psychoanalytic approach do you see as being potentially useful in your work as a therapist?
