You may have even been surprised by some of the organizations that may utilize slave labor in order to produce products you use. This week we want to explore that subject a bit more by giving you the opportunity to identify other companies that may support slave labor. This assignment is not requiring you to take action by submitting letters (though you are invited to do so); rather the point of this assignment is to help you identify ways that your habits might be assisting those who participate in slave-related marketing.
The site allows you to organize what you are seeing into categories. We are most concerned with those companies that have INSUFFICIENT, since they represent companies that have not provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate their commitment to not use slave labor. After you have organized the list, look over the companies and identify those that affect you. You might also do some research on chocolate and its association with slavery. This can be done by simply using your search engine and typing in “Chocolate Slavery”. You might even want to take an inventory of the chocolate related products that you have or have used recently before you begin your investigation.
