Case Study Discussion-The Nervous System
The patient’s expressive dysphasia affected speech articulation and production. Studies
indicate that patients with this condition can understand communication and what they need to
express but with a limited capacity to express the proper communication. This condition
manifests as trouble using words correctly and incoherent use of language in communication.
The primary reason for dysphasia is the damage to Broca’s area. Broca’s area is the part of the
brain that controls speech articulation and production. Condition like a stroke can target this
region and impair speech production. However, Gajardo-Vidal et al. (2021) explored this issue
among 134 stroke survivors. This research indicates contrary findings that damage to the Broca’s
area has limited effects on the long-term speech deficiencies. This evidence indicates that
multiple factors jointly play a role in articulation and communication. With the patient in the
scenario, the cerebrovascular accident history suggests the effect on long-term speech
production.
Endarterectomy is the surgical procedure indicated when the patient has plagues
obstructing blood flow. Plagues constrict and narrow the arterial walls, which increase pressure
on the flow of blood. These substances can affect blood flow in the carotid artery, compromising
the supply of oxygen and nutrients in the brain cells and potentially damaging the Broca’s area.
Secondly, cholecystectomy is a surgical process that serves as the intervention among patients
with cholelithiasis. This operation helps in removing gallstones in the gallbladder or bile duct
(Lambert 2018). The process is also indicated for gallbladder inflammation. Besides,
hysterectomy is indicated for complicated pelvic pain related to fibroids and endometriosis.
