Question Description

Choose ONE (1) of the following three (3) questions and construct your response in the form of a formal essay, 500-1000 words (or 2-4 pages). (Be sure to include an introduction/thesis, body paragraph(s) & conclusion). Once you select a topic, I will provide lecture and reference materials from the instructor. No plagiarism as everything is submitted through Turnitin. This for an Advanced Composition class. Grammar, structure, etc. is very important.

You should base your essay on the course readings, lectures, and films. You should be as specific as possible in your references and as comprehensive as possible in your coverage. It is essential that you support your views with evidence. Use in-text, parenthetical citations to cite your sources (textbook, authors, documentaries, etc.) For more information on citations, see the following: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/02/

1. Compare and contrast 1st Wave Feminism, 2nd Wave Feminism and 3rd Wave Feminism. How were the goals, strategies and achievements similar and/or different? In a final paragraph, what did each era accomplish and what issue(s) did each era leave unresolved? (Tips: Be sure to craft a clear thesis statement that identifies specific categories of similarities and differences between these three eras. Be sure that you provide concrete and specific evidence to support your claim.)

2. Select three (3) women we have discussed in this class. They can be from any period or theme that we have covered, but each must represent a different time/theme. (For example, you could not pick both Ella Baker and Fannie Lou Hamer as they are both from the 1960s and part of the Civil Rights Movement). For each woman selected, describe her role in the particular time, theme, and/or movement for which she is associated. In a final paragraph, discuss how the three women symbolize women’s history in your perspective. (Tips: Be sure to discuss how the women you’ve chosen represent women’s role/participation in that time, theme, and/or movement.)

3. Since the early 20th century, women in the United States have experienced both greater equality and freedom and continued (and perhaps even increasing) frustrations and challenges. What factors account for greater equality and freedom and what factors account for continued frustrations? (Tips: For your thesis statement, identify what you see as the two most important factors that have driven positive change for women, along with the two most important factors behind women’s frustrations and challenges. If your thesis statement has more than two factors on each side, you should merge some factors into broader concepts until you get it down to two. “Factors” can be ideas, values, institutions, activist methods, economic shifts, political reforms, economic shifts, social changes, or anything else that you think might responsible for shaping women’s history.)
