Complete two Strategy Proposals/reflections for SME case studies

Strategy proposals/reflections

Students will complete two strategy proposals/reflections for SME case studies.

Assessment process for each strategy proposal/reflection is as follows:

  1. Review lecture on the topic on loop. Lectures will be posted one week in advance of class.

  1. Cases will be on loop each week (in the CASE BANK tile). Choose one of the cases to analyse and provide advice for the company owner. A topic will be indicated for each week, and your strategy proposal must relate to this topic. Proposals should follow the template provided below. Each proposal should be 600 words not including exhibits and references. Proposals must be submitted on loop by 6pm on Wednesdays. The link for submissions is in the MODULE INFORMATION tile. Late admissions will not be accepted. Your strategy proposal is worth 10%

  1. Take part in the class discussion on the topic and cases. Discussion will be in small groups. Each student should share their analysis and explain the basis for their recommendation. Taking part in the group discussions is an essential component of the assignment, and you will not be able to complete a reflection if you have not participated in the discussions.

  1. Following the class, each student will submit a follow-up reflection on their strategy proposal submission. This should cover a) your learning from the class discussion and b) revisions/enhancements to your analysis/recommendation following your group discussion. Reflections should be 400 words and must be submitted within one week of class of the topic. This is to encourage students to write the reflection while the material is fresh, and the class discussion can be easily recalled. Each reflection is worth 5%.

Topic/Case:                                                                Date:

The idea: What is your recommendation for this company? Keep this short! One or two sentences will suffice.

Background: In this section, you should explain the background to your recommendation by providing evidence of your analysis of the firm’s situation. How did you identify this problem or opportunity? What analytical frameworks did you use? Focus on the findings from your analysis, not a point-by-point explanation of the framework itself.  You can include a worked application of the frameworks used in your exhibits.

Recommendation in detail: Describe the benefits of your proposal and provide evidence to support it. Evidence must include learning from at least TWO ACADEMIC JOURNAL ARTICLES, and may also include your knowledge from personal/work experience, other modules, textbook, online resources, etc. This section should be the main part of your submission.

Next steps: Also important! Provide implementation detail to help the company owner to operationalize your recommendation. This can be in the form of an action plan or bullet points.

Exhibits: Exhibits should include completed analytical frameworks, and any other information that supports your analysis and recommendation.

Strategy proposals should not exceed 600 words.

Reflection (400 words)

Some questions to help you to reflect!  You don’t have to address all of them in your reflection but you do need to demonstrate learning from the group discussion.

  • What would you now do differently if you could have a second try at the case?
  • What else have you learned from the case, from the group discussion

and/or from the class discussion?

  • Can you see connections with other subjects or other experiences?
  • What does your learning mean for you as a marketing professional?
