Developmental History

Description

For this assignment, you will observe, examine, interpret and draw conclusions about your own life based on your developmental history. You are to utilize learning from this course in a practical and personal way. This paper should help you to:

  1. become more conscious of who you are
  2. understand how nature and nurture has shaped your life
  3. anticipate what your needs, desires and goals are for your future based on your past

After choosing a theory/theorist, you will write a paper about your own development from pre-school (as far back as you can remember) to present-age. The paper must be developmentally theory-based and cover these three areas of development: physical, cognitive, social/emotional. As school counselors we need to be able to reflect on our own development and address any issues that may have affected our own development. You will discuss life, family, and school events that shaped your development contributing to who you are as a person today.

An example: “When I was an infant, my mother stayed home with me and was very attentive. I had a lot of extended family that helped my mother and took very good care of me. According to Erikson, it was during this time that the basic conflict of “Basic Trust vs. Mistrust” was resolved positively due to the care I received. I am now a very trusting, open person.”

APA format is required. Paper must include a title page, abstract page, 7-9 pages of content (including appropriate headings, headers, and page numbers) and a reference page.
