Do you believe Michael Moore’s visit to different countries provides an accurate analysis of each country’s health care system?

Description

What do you think is your personal stake in changing the way our health care system works?

I think my personal stake in changing the way our health care system works is continue urging the government to put in place universal cover where all people will be covered.

2. Thinking of the experiences portrayed in the film, what are the major problems in the United States’ health care system? Why hasn’t it been “fixed”?

Lack of transparency is one of the major problems facing the United States’ health care system. The second one is high costs of care and the third one is a lack of insurance coverage.

Lack of transparency has not been tackled since the providers have put in place a procedure to get more money from the insurers. High cost of health care services has not been tackled due to rising cost of drugs, hospitals are profit centers and there are multiple systems that are creating waste. The third issue has not been addressed fully due to ACA’s exclusion of the undocumented immigrants, and the lack of Medicaid expansion across the 19 states.

3. Which country shown in this film do you believe gives its citizens the best care? Why?

I believe the UK gives its citizens the best care because it has in place a comprehensive publicly funded health care system. It is indicated that there are no out-of-pocket payments. Pharmaceuticals are offered free of charge for all people in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

4. Do you believe Michael Moore’s visit to different countries provides an accurate analysis of each country’s health care system? Explain why or why not.

I believe Michael Moore’s visit to the different nations provides an accurate analysis of each of the country’s health care system because most of the information that he provided was accurate. It is true that the US spends a significant portion of its GDP on health care. There is no any country that spends more than the US does on its health care system. Canada spends 10%, and France spends around 11% of its GDP. However, from the film it is clear that the United States does not offer high standards of health care like the United Kingdom. This is a clear indication that more money does not equal better health care.

5. What are the consequences for not having health insurance? Why is health insurance often insufficient in managing expenses? What is your opinion of health insurance?

One of the consequences for not having health insurance is foregoing preventive care and later on seeking health care at when the health issue is at advanced stage. The other consequences includes; increased rates of communicable diseases and increased insurance premiums.

Health insurance is often insufficient in managing expenses due increasing costs of drugs and multiple systems that are creating waste.

My opinion about health insurance is that if well-managed it can lead to improving health of the whole society. Some of the factors that are affecting how health insurance are dispensing services to the people can be addressed such as increasing transparency and reducing the systems that are leading to waste.
