What is already known about the topic? • In high-income countries, the majority of people dying from expected deaths die in hospital. • Optimal care for all those who require end-of-life care in hospitals cannot be assured. What this paper adds?
• A synthesis of published primary qualitative (interview/focus group) data to identify what dying inpatients and their families consider to be important elements of end-of-life care within the hospital setting.
