Healthcare Delivery Systems

Description

You are asked to write an analytical essay on the health disparities that may be ascribed to the healthcare delivery systems. First, based on the textbook and the following article, discuss why increasing access to the healthcare delivery systems would OR would not (pick one) reduce health disparities in the U.S. – Bindman, Andrew et al. 1995. “Preventable Hospitalizations and Access to Health Care.” JAMA 274(4):305-311 (Note: You may skim read “Methods” and “Analysis”). Second, discuss the overall health status and health disparities in the U.S. and Canada, respectively, in relation to their healthcare delivery systems. Does the evidence appear to suggest that health disparities increase or disease in the U.S. due to its healthcare delivery systems? Support.

  1. You must adequately incorporate theoretical statements and empirical evidence introduced in the textbook as well as other course materials. Do NOT cite lecture slides or outside sources, except for empirical data.
  2. Your statements must be supported by the theoretical statements and empirical evidence introduced in the course materials. Cited statements must be in double quotation marks (approx. 5-10; e.g., “… directly quoted statement…” (Cockerham 2017:10). Do NOT quote more than two sentences at a time.
  3. Any academic style (e.g., APA) is acceptable. For an example, read “Quick Tips for ASA Style.” Using a statement, phrase, or idea without appropriate citation is plagiarism. The student involved will receive a zero score on the essay and be subject to disciplinary action as noted in the Rules of Conduct: 1. Academic Misconduct.
