Human sexuality

Human sexuality refers to the way people experience and also express themselves as
sexual beings. As Molina (1999) asserts, many factors affect and influence the development of
one’s sexuality. These include their biological component, which denotes one either being male
or female based on physical observation. The other main components are the social processes
such as their religion, the media, and law, which serve as primary agents of socializing the
individual and teaching them how to behave sexually. Potki et al. (2017) assert that the social
factors that affect a person’s sexuality include their parents, peers, and media.
A critical examination of Karen’s scenario shows that biological and social components
play a great role in influencing and shaping her sexuality. On the one hand, Karen’s biology
denotes her as a female; however, her social, religious environment, which is quite strict, has
kept her from engaging in any sexual experience. Further, her interaction with media has
exposed her to other women who are fashion models and who exude a lot of confidence, causing

that a person’s bias to any of these orientations is organized before their birth but is influenced by
their cultural and social forces.
A look at Karen’s case shows that her biological component predisposes her as a female.
Further, according to Diamond (2011), it was the same component predisposed to her current
attraction towards female models who are members of her biological sex. However, the scholar
asserts that social and cultural forces influence this orientation. In Karen’s case, her religion has
kept her from engaging or experimenting in any form of sexual behavior. However, her
