Purpose: The purpose of this project is to allow the student to identify an important management theory and discuss the application of the theory within the sport facility and event industry.

Instructions: Provide a brief description of the theory selected (Taylorism, Hawthorne Effect or Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs). Identify and elaborate on the major applications of the theory as if you are the facility or event manager of any specific sport facility or event of your choice. Follow these instructions in preparing your project paper and submit your written report accordingly.

• Select a management theory that we discussed in class (Taylorism, Hawthorne Effect or Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs).
• Select a sport facility or event in which a manager would have several levels of subordinates working below them.
• Written reflection:

o Cover page:

• Include name of selected management theory.
• Follow this with the sport facility or event that you chose.
• Center this information on the title page.

o Document:

• Begin the first page with the title of the paper followed by description of the theory selected. This should include, but NOT BE LIMITTED TO, who is responsible for the theory. Applications of the theory. How the theory has evolved over time.
• Follow the theory description and background with an introduction and explanation of the sport facility or event that you have picked. This should include, but NOT BE LIMITTED TO, the name of the facility or event, location, and use of the facility that you are focusing on (i.e. concessions, ticket sales, game day ops, etc.).
• Follow the introduction of your facility/event with how your management theory applies to your specific facility/event. This should include, but NOT BE LIMITTED TO, why this theory important? How does the application of this theory benefit the manager? How does this theory benefit the subordinates? What, if any, are the down sides?

o References: If you use resources, you need to cite them!

• A complete reference list of all sources used in completing this project must be provided.
• Follow APA style in completing this reference list. The reference list will come at the end of the paper under the heading “References”.
• • This project is to be neatly typed, single-spaced, using 12-point Ariel font with one-inch margins at top, bottom and sides of each page, excluding the cover page. Length of paper not to exceed four (4) pages.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling.
