Identify and Describe an environmental organization operating in Canada

Your assignment is to identify and describe an environmental organization operating in Canada and to assess its use of digital technologies in their work.  Note that you may complete the assignment working independently or in pairs.

First of all, select an organization and email Dr. Bryant to report your selection (there will be no overlap; each organization will only be covered once), so selection is first-come, first-served.  Dr. Bryant will reply to let you know if your selection has been approved or not.  If you are working in a pair, please identify your partner and copy that person on your email to me (only one email per pair, please).

Your paper should provide a summary of the organization’s work, its history, and any other information that gives a clear understanding of what it has accomplished.  Discuss any media coverage that you have found that sheds light on how the organization is represented in the media.  Then, lay out how it uses digital technologies to further its work: evaluate its website, discuss its use of social media (which platforms does it use, how often, etc.) and any other communication methods or campaigns it uses, and how one goes about following the organization and/or getting involved with its work.  Use insights you have gained from Pezzullo and Cox (as well as any other relevant sources) to provide an overall assessment of this organization.

The paper will be 1200 to 1500 words and will be typed, double-spaced, and follow APA format.  The references should contain at least three scholarly sources (one of which will be Pezzullo and Cox).  Note that popular sources may also be used, but these will be in addition to the three scholarly sources.

You will also present your work to the class in the form of a one-page poster that effectively summarizes your paper. Someone reading the poster should get an overview of the organization and its work, your assessment of its use of digital technologies to further its work, as well as information on how to follow/connect to them and, if relevant, how to get involved in their work.   You will submit this as one power point slide and it will be made available on the website for your peers to view.  You will give a 3-4 minute introduction to your poster on one of the following dates: November 29 or December 1.  The schedule will be arranged in class in the coming weeks.
