Identify attributes of leadership styles and approaches that facilitate quality supervision
It takes more than being named “the manager” to be a leader. Whom the people follow is
a factor in leadership. Leaders have an impact on the actions of others. Leader and managers
must understand how to inspire others in order to properly motivate them in order to be more
efficient. Others prefer to follow leaders because they have certain attributes. The practice of
directing other person’s attitudes toward reaching a set goals is the traditional definition of
leadership. It is critical to remember that leadership is a tool, not an end in itself. It is crucial to
note that the styles of leadership adopted by supervisors are the determinants on the quality of
supervision offered. Therefore, supervisor must embrace the leadership styles that are person-
oriented since they are usually concerned with how their subordinates feel whilst they are
working other than only having the assignments completed. There are several leadership style
that facilitate quality supervision. One of these styles is participative leadership (Chan, 2019).
This style is based on democratic theory.
Particularly, the main objective of participative leadership style is to involve group
members in the process of making decisions. By so doing, group members feel valued and part
of the management hence they are motivated to participate. The second style is delegative
leadership. This style concentrates on delegation of initiatives to group members. Delegative
leadership is normally successfully completed if group members are experienced and take
responsibility and prioritize participating in personal work. Another style is authoritarian
leadership which enables a manager to impose anticipations and define consequences. For
