Innovation-Decision Process
Also known as the Diffusion of Innovations, Rogers` Innovation-Decision Process is a
representation of the stages that individuals go through during the consideration and adoption of
an innovation. It also features the characteristics of an innovation that determine its likelihood of
innovation. The innovation-decision process takes place progressively in five stages which
include knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation (Scott & McGuire,
2017). Ideally, an individual will learn of innovation and seek information on how and why it
works before being persuaded by its value and eventually deciding on whether o adopt it or reject
it entirely. Therefore, an individual can leave the innovation-decision process at any stage. Scott
and McGuire (2017) posit that people rely on interpersonal networks and their peers to learn the
advantages or disadvantages of innovation, which inform the five stages, while the time taken to
cover the whole process may vary across individuals based on their circumstances. The diffusion
