Is the problem with direct democracy that it’s just not feasible?

1. ‘Only deliberative democracy produces rational public policy. So
deliberative democracy is the best form of government.’ Should we
accept this argument?
2. Is the problem with direct democracy that it’s just not feasible?
3. Should democratic voting procedures select winners by lottery or by
majority rule?
4. EITHER (a) Is leaving ‘enough, and as good’ for others sufficient to
make you the owner of an object?
OR (b) Do you own your eyes?
5. Does social justice require that distributive shares not be influenced by
morally arbitrary factors?
6. ‘It is unjust that millionaires are dramatically better off than nonmillionaires, but not that billionaires are dramatically better off than
millionaires.’ Is it?
7. ‘Liberty upsets patterns. Therefore we should reject patterned principles
of justice.’ Is this a good argument?
8. EITHER (a) Can we be forced to be free?
OR (b) Do we lose liberty or gain it when we leave the state of nature?
9. ‘Absence of freedom is due to the closing of doors or the failure to open
them.’ Is this metaphor apt?
10. Is the slave of a benign master unfree?
