Major powers assigned to Congress by the Constitution.

Question Description

Read pp. 365-375 in the textbook, Politics in America.

Our Constitution gives Congress very broad and important powers. The Constitution also gives the President very important, though less expansive powers. It is apparent that the Founding Fathers clearly wanted Congress to be the most influential branch of our government, yet conflict between Congress and the Presidency over these powers is a recurring theme in our government. A clear understanding of the powers assigned to Congress and the President by the Constitution is needed in order to critically analyze the conflictual and cooperative relationships between Congress and the Presidency.

Write a research paper that identifies and then describes two of the main powers assigned to Congress and two of the main powers assigned to the President by the Constitution. In addition, explain how and why tensions between the Legislative and the Executive branches of government could be created when Congress and the President exercise the powers assigned to them by the Constitution.

The paper should be organized into the following five sections:

  1. Introduction and thesis.
  2. Description of two major powers assigned to Congress by the Constitution.
  3. Description of two major powers assigned to the President by the Constitution.
  4. Explanation of how and why tensions between the Legislative and the Executive branches of government could be created when Congress and the President exercises the powers assigned to them by the Constitution.
  5. Conclusion.

The paper must be 5 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least 5 scholarly resources other than the textbook to support your claims.
