Paediatrics Case study

This assessment consists of 1 case study of 1250 words (excluding diagrams and list of references). The assessment is worth 30% of your total mark for this unit.

 

Assessments should be submitted via Turnitin, using the format outlined on the following pages. The assessment is an individual

piece of work and sharing answers, working in a group or colluding will be deemed academic misconduct.

All necessary and relevant information in the case study is provided. If information is not present it is not relevant to the case study provided.

Case Study

 

It is 9am on a cold winter’s day. You are dispatched to attend a 3 month old male with tachypnoea, noisy breathing, lethargy and irritability.

 

Upon arrival, the baby is being held by his mother. He has had a mild cough and blocked nose for the last two days. She also states that she is concerned by a couple of brief periods of apnoea and he hasn’t been feeding well. On visual observations, you notice intercostal recession and nasal flaring. Your primary assessment finds the following:

Case Study Presentation Standards and Template

 

General Standards for Case Study Presentation

 

.

1.       Title Page

A title page should be inserted between the cover page and table of contents or commencement of the assignment.

2.       Table of Contents

For long assignments with multiple parts, it is advisable (but not compulsory) to insert a table of contents.

3.       Font size and type

Assignments should be typed consistently in either size 12 Times New Roman or size 11 Arial fonts.

4.       Line spacing

Use 1.5-line spacing for assignments.

One extra line space is required between paragraphs

5.       Margins

Leave a 2.54cm margin on the left, right, top and bottom of the page. This is normal the default setting for Microsoft Word.

6.       Word Limits

Word limits on assignments exclude your list of references and tables, figures.

7.       Page numbers

Insert a page number on the bottom right hand corner of the page, commencing with the title page.

8.       Paragraphs

Do not indent the first line of each new paragraph. The text should be left justified (not fully justified).

9.       Headings

If only one level of heading is needed, use Level 1 headings (left, bold typeface, upper and lower case and one font size higher than text).

If a second level heading is needed, use Level 2 headings (left aligned, bold typeface, upper and lower case and font size same size as text).

If a third level heading is needed, used Level 3 headings (left aligned, bold typeface, upper and lower case, italics and font size same size as text).

10.   Abbreviations/acronyms

The full name must be used on the first occasion followed by the commonly used abbreviation or acronym in brackets; thereafter, the acronym only is used.

11.   Tables, charts and diagrams

All must be labelled and numbered (i.e. Figure 1 or Table 1). Figures include charts, graphs, pictures and diagrams.

Place the title above tables, and below figures.

 

12.   Headers, footers and footnotes

Ensure your name and student number is in the header in the top right corner. Page numbers are required on the bottom right footer.

Footnotes and endnotes are not used.

13.   Referencing

Your assignments must be referenced using the APA style of referencing. Start your list of end- text references on a new page. The list of references should be left aligned. Use a hanging indent for each reference and follow APA style format for all references. There are comprehensive guides available from the Library on APA referencing.
