1. Other than being a girl statue, Peplos Kore is known to be the commonly known cases of

Archaic Greek art. From your perspective, what does Peplos Kore mean?

I think that Peplos Kore means a highly valued person that was offered to the goddess.

Peplos Kore seems to represent an ideal of class and affluence and indicates high social status.

Peplos Kore is an indication of a higher class of girls as compared to the local girls, commonly

known as kore. The painting and the material used to make the statute also exudes class and

confidence, which is an indication of a highly esteemed individual in the community.

2. The Classical Archaeology Museum, in 1975, tried to imitate the original appearance of

the sculpture by painting the figure’s cast. The replica was later displayed next to the

second, unpainted cast to validate the distinction between the pure white marble and the

brightly-painted version, which is probably closer to reality. From this, we can deduce

that there exists a picture of Peplos Kore as it may have appeared originally. Therefore,

where was this statue placed originally before replication?

Akropolis in Athens was the original location where Peplos Kore was discovered in c.530

BCE. The statute was then moved to Akropolis Museum where a repainting of a similar statute

was done. The original and the new cast are currently placed side by side in the Museum of

Classical Archaeology to provide views with an idea of what the original cast. The recasting was

made to help in getting an idea about the original cast since it required a lot of imagination to see

the original Peplos Kore.
