Resume Assignment about Alexander the Great

Conduct research and create a resume and bibliography of an individual who is significant in World History and who lived between the birth of civilization to about the year 1600.

Objectives of the Resume Assignment: Utilize secondary and/or primary sources to create a modern- day record of an individual who is significant in World History and who lived between the birth of civilization to about the year 1600.

Requirements of the Resume Assignment: Resumes must be word-processed (typed) and have the following components:

1. The Resume

a. Name of Person, Address (Town/City/Country) and Date of Resume

b. Body
(1) Summary of Qualifications/Accomplishments Gives the potential employer an overall picture of qualifications before he or she reads further for details. This section presents personal traits in a positive manner.

(2) Work Experience/Employment History Think of this section as like writing an advertising piece.

If you use a chronological format, list employment from most recent job first and go in reverse chronological order.

The important point is to emphasize the skills and experience that will be valuable to the employer.

Tips: Especially in this section, utilize action verbs like the ones underlined in these examples:

*Organized, computed, and maintained confidential sales compensation records.
*Initiated and participated in writing the Bill of Rights. *Developed the first postal system in the colonies. *Other action and skill verbs include but aren’t limitedto the following:

Accomplished, achieved, acquired, adapted Administered, advised, built, carried out, charted Completed, controlled, counseled, created,

delegated
Diagnosed, directed

Engineered, established, examined, expanded

Finalized, handled, headed, implemented, improved

Increased, instituted, introduced, led, maintained, managed

(3) Education
Begin with the highest level of educational

achievement and work backwards.

Use reverse chronology!

    Create other sections like awards, hobbies, or community service, etc.
  2. (5) REFERENCES.
    3 or more references from notable contemporaries of historic person stating their position.

Do not write “REFERENCES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.”

List the books and articles utilized as research materials. Students must utilize at least 3 sources, and all three sources must be scholarly historical works (e.g., Wikipedia is not a scholarly work).
Books available in electronic format, like Google Books, are acceptable if they have been published. Articles from academic journals are acceptable secondary source materials.

Survey texts (such as our textbook) and general encyclopedias will not count as a source.
