  1. Analyze the Broughton Gazette case study and answer ALL of the following questions: Diagram the relationships. What is likely to happen? Play out all the various potential scenarios, including any whistleblowing. Should the Broughton Gazette get involved? For what reasons? Is SecureDrop an appropriate avenue for the Broughton Gazette to take? What are the pros and the cons? What stages of Kohlberg’s Stages of Moral Development are each of the characters following?
  2. What are the ethical issues involved in offshoring technology production or support? Should there be legislation prohibiting offshoring? Would it be constitutional? Why or why not? Is offshoring “socially responsible” for society as a whole as well as a company’s own stakeholders? Why or why not? When US companies outsource their manufacturing offshore, do they have a responsibility to use factories that provide safe and fair environments for their workers?
  3. During a time in which unemployment in the United States is high some people feel that it is unethical to hire H-1B workers to work in the United States. Prepare a brief summary of reasons why hiring H-1B workers might be considered unethical. Make a list of reasons why hiring H-1B workers should be considered ethical. What set of reasons is stronger? Why?
  4. Do you or your friends interrupt your face-to-face interactions with social media platforms or text messages to people who aren’t there? Do you think that these kinds of interactions negatively affect friendships, or are they just a natural part of an increasingly technology-dependent society? Do you feel the need to report on everything you’re doing during the day via social media? Do you think this enhances or devalues friendships?
