Pro-Family Movement, Feminism, and Queer Theory Assignment Instructions

In this paper, you have the opportunity to explore additional sets of ideas about society and government: the Pro-Family Movement, Feminism, and Queer Theory.  The interplay among these is important in the 1950’s, and especially late 1960’s, and in fact it is essential to understanding the era’s upheavals.  Relevant questions include: what strategies did the Pro-Family Movement adopt after Supreme Court decisions pushed religion out of the public square?  What core ideas are reflected in first, second, and third wave feminism?  The grounding of queer theory, significantly, is different from all three and relates to a theory of language known as post-structuralism. Relative to engagement with ideologies in the previous paper assignment, identification of non-idolatrous components in these systems of thought is, arguably, harder.  If anything, given the emotional intensity of discussions surrounding identity compared to economics, it is more crucial.  A comparison and contrast of the ideologies again leads to increased understanding.

In the paper, discuss the following:

  • Synthesize the key ideas of socialism, Marxism and Critical Theory
  • Evaluate the impacts of Socialism, Marxism and critical theory on American politics and policy
  • Evaluate the above within a model of Biblical principles of statesmanship and government

Practical applications center on tracing the impact of these above systems of thought in American policy and politics.  Which public policies and Supreme Court decisions bear the imprint of feminism and/or queer theory, and which have been more sympathetic to the Pro-Family Movement?  What are the implications of complementarian vs. egalitarian debates in churches, and what is the continuing impact of #MeToo on public debates?  Finally, is there any way for Christians in 2021 to be open about family and gender issues, or have the legal regime and corporations made this impossible?

Instructions

Write 12-14 pages of content, double-spaced, thoroughly addressing all aspects of the question prompt.  Remember that as per posted guidelines, your paper must include citations from relevant readings, presentations, and at least 20 scholarly sources.  It is not unusual, in doctoral-level research, to have 3-4 citations per paragraph.  Remember also that writing a research paper, especially at the doctoral level, requires the student to weave in ideas from numerous sources and then in turn synthesize those ideas to create fresh insights and knowledge. Current APA citation format is required.
