A makeover is intended to turn a dilapidated single-storey building in Coventry into a new state-of-the-art Smart Laboratory, which will offer access to the latest technology. It will be open to schools, universities, businesses and the public with the opportunity to turn ideas into reality. This will be done by training the trainers to use important new computer-controlled tools to enable trainees to gain confidence and digital fabrication skills. The target is to publicize the Smart Laboratory and open the refurbished building to visitors within 10 months.

You have been appointed as a Project Manager by Fab Coventry to oversee the planning and development of this project. You are to: (1) assess the feasibility of the project, drawing on appropriate project management theory and frameworks; (2) prepare an initial plan that includes the project scope, the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the Gantt chart, considering a minimum of 30 different tasks and 4 milestones; (3) analyse the main stakeholders and unexpected events, and provide recommendations on how these stakeholders and events should be managed to maximise the chance of achieving the project’s objectives.

You are required to research and apply project management theory in order to successfully complete this assignment. In order to pass, you will need to use a minimum of 15 separate sources, including a minimum of 10 textbooks and/or scientific journal articles.

** what needs to improve**
Evidence of research project management theory and use of different sources 7/25
Limited amount of relevant material. Shows little evidence of reading/research and a very basic understanding of project management theory.

Application of project management tools and techniques 12/45
You should define what project scope is, develop some theoretical argument on why it is important to define projects scope and then apply the definition of the project scope. You should be able to define and apply the following scope elements as it relates to the project: scope inclusion, scope exclusion, project objectives, deliverables, milestones, technical requirements, assumptions, constraints. A plan must be logical, Gantt chart should be logically linked to the WBS produced and include milestones. The WBS structure activities should logical and you should refrain from including irrelevant activities. Stakeholders assessments should include an initial assessment by identifying, analysing, planning and providing recommendations on how these stakeholders should be managed to maximise the chance of achieving the project objectives.
