It is expected that you will research the profession within the Canadian context, if possible. Some professions can’t do this because the profession took shape in another country, or the professional association may be international. If this is the case, indicate this in the portfolio.

You are expected to research from several sources. (Academic peer-reviewed journals, books, professional websites and the media). If you use material from the internet, be prepared to justify the reliability of each source.

For example, the following source is not academic and is not acceptable for the portfolio.

5 Modern Ethical Issues in Law Enforcement | BestValueSchools

In grading the portfolio, the first thing that is looked at is the quality of the sources used in the creation of the portfolio. Note: Some students may find relevant material in some of their textbooks. (Ex. Social Work) It is expected that you will use more sources than course textbooks.  Do not use Wikipedia or other non-academic sources. You can use sources from professional associations related to the specific profession.

If you are unsure of your sources, check with Dr. Muldoon.

Format: Please use the same numbering system used on this portfolio assignment sheet in your portfolio. Specifying a portfolio length depends on what is necessary to answer the questions.

Feel free to contact Dr. Muldoon if you have any questions or want feedback on your work.
