The declaration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, following the
agreement of more than 150 countries set a precedence of protecting our planet, ending
poverty, and promoting sustainable development. The UN Sustainable Development Goals
included 17 cardinal goals that in overall targeted the promotion of sustainable development
by setting targets that were to be achieved in the next 15 years since the year 2015 [1]. Our
topic, food distribution systems will fall under Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and
improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. This goal seeks to achieve zero
hunger by the year 2030 by ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food supply,
especially by poor people in the vulnerable areas [1].
Food distribution systems matters a lot in achieving the UN Sustainable Development
Goal 2. In particular, it is important to focus on research in regard to this area because
freshwater, oceans, forests and biodiversity are rapidly being degraded. Additionally, climate
change is putting even more pressure on the resources we depend on [1]. However, food
security is yet to be achieved despite the world spread practice of agriculture. It is for this
case that I feel zero hunger and food security lies in the hands of efficient food distribution
