Overview

In this module/week, we will begin to tie many of the concepts you have learned together.  You have seen how government has continually grown in size, scope, and power by responding to real or imagined crises, including economic considerations, wars, domestic strife, and more.  Some have called this expansion “government over-reach” while others have called it “responsible government.”  Arguably, the most defining time in how the government came to rule the economy and launched social change came during the years of World War II.  For the first time, many Americans came to realize there was a greater world beyond our shores.  Everything changed profoundly as a result of the war, from race relations to nuclear proliferation, not just the United States but the whole world changed.

Question:Describe, discuss, and support your discussion, what were the top two social or societal changes that took place in the United States as a result of World War II.

In your response please incorporate the following:

  • Explain the economy of war
  • Define “Social Change”
  • Describe the social change that came out of WWII
