The traditional approach to the history of psychology has been presentist, internal, and personalistic, and it tends to create what are called origin myths. Recently, historians have tended to be more historicist, external, and naturalistic. What does this mean? Why do these distinctions matter? After reading Chapter 1, what concerns do you have about studying the history of psychology knowing the challenges present in historiography?
