The Unique Leadership of Julius Caesar and Steve Jobs

Question Description

Case Study Analysis: The Unique Leadership of Julius Caesar and Steve Jobs

Julius Caesar was considered one of the “Great Captains” by none other than Napoleon himself. Caesar, who was not a professional military man and who had little military experience, conquered Gaul in the face of odds that are hardly imaginable today. This success wrecked the Roman Republic and launched the Roman Empire, and many of those institutions remain with us today.

Steve Jobs, a college drop-out with no business experience, greatly assisted in launching society into the information age: it is estimated that 1 billion people owns a smart phone today.

Based on your understanding of personal theories of leadership and the qualities of good generalship, what set these leaders apart from their contemporaries? Support your ideas from research of at least one source for each of them. Does Jobs qualify as a Great Commander, based on the criteria of Tuchman, Clausewitz, or Gabels / Willbanks?
