TOURISTS STEREOTYPES AND SATISFACTION

TOURISTS STEREOTYPES AND SATISFACTION 2
Question 1
The reason why stereotypes are developed is based on what tourists observe why they
travel, the interactions with type people they meet, and the services they get while traveling.
Every tourist has specific expectations in terms of the setup of the tourist services provided
by the destination they travel to at any given time. Events as per their expectations, some of
which relate to the socioeconomic status of travelers, should be included as a tourist package.
For example, in Europe, senior citizens have become more involved in Danube boat trips,
which they find to be perfectly better for their physical health. The services must be tailored
to the tourists’ ages as well as the nature of the cruise. If these preferences are not met then
the tourists will lose satisfaction and start developing a negative attitude towards the place
and the people working there. Italian tourists have been always regarded as friendly and this
aspect can differ according to the person or recipient’s attributes. The entire restaurant
workforce is at risk of being counterproductive or not cooperative in behaving the way they
expect. In that case, the first experience by the tourist might not be pleasant and therefore
they may opt for other hotel facilities where they will be received in a hospitable way by their
host. Once a tourist develops a stereotype in a certain place or people to the rage will be
passed on to their friends or family, and it is no longer possible to restore the reputation or to
convince them in the future. Tourists expect to benefit from excellent service, irrespective of
their nationality.
Cultural factors also have an impact on the actions of tourists in many ways as well as
have a direct effect on tourists’ plans when traveling. Some will already have a deeply held
opinion about a certain culture because of what they already read (Kriegel, 2016). But this
could be wrong when they interact with these cultures. The cycle of transmitting on social
knowledge repeatedly between one person to another can contribute to the unintended and
accidental development of cultural stereotypes.
