Using class material (Worth article, cave allegory, etc), in your own words, express a definition of philosophy.

Question Description

WEEK 1 DISCUSSION 1.1: Philosophy and Religion ToolboxDiscussion Topic

After looking through all of the readings and videos in the Week 1 course materials about philosophy, art, and religion please use them, without relying on any outside resources, to address the questions below. Do not quote sources directly — express concepts in your own words. Make sure to cite any of the learning resources you use in your answer.

Your post should be at least 200 words long.

  1. Using class material (Worth article, cave allegory, etc), in your own words, express a definition of philosophy. (Please note, this asks for your own words, but not your opinions — be sure to base your definition on class materials).
  2. Read through sections 1-3 of this article on myth (Defining myth, Some background on mythology, Characteristics of myth). Then, relying on this resource, define myth in an academic sense. Using this week’s resources on Religion, pick a world religion and share a myth.

You will not see any other postings until you post your own. Do not edit your post. If you would like to add/change information, please do so in a response to your post.

Discussion posts for 1.1 are due by Thursday at 11:30PM ET. You are not required to but are welcome to respond to other postings. You will also be working on Discussion 1.2 this week. This discussion will lock shortly after the due date/time.
