VARIOUS ASPECTS OF STRATEGIC PLANNING 2
Question One
Dangers of a Flawed Mission Statement
A flawed mission statement is a statement that does not provide clear giding actions and does not
define a particular organization’s primary objectives and purpose. A flawed mission brings the
following dangers to the business organization; the inability of the mission statement to provide
clear guidance of the organization’s actions. For example, it fails to provide meaning, direction,
and focus to an organization’s employees. A flawed mission statement leads to negative
implications on the organizational goals and job descriptions (Rumelt, 2012). In addition to that,
the mission fails to set a tone and provide a philosophical position from which the organizational
goals and objectives could be developed. The mission fails to communicate the general purpose of
the business organization. i.e., reasons for its existence.
