What, in your opinion, was the most significant historical event that we have discussed or read about in this course?

Your essay should do all of the following:

1. Provide a well-written, clear thesis statement that briefly (no more than one paragraph) identifies what event you will be writing about and why you think it is the most significant event.

2. Give a thorough explanation of the event, including its historical context – what was it? Who was involved? What was it in response to? What were its short-term and long-term consequences?

3. Explain why you think this event is the most significant thing we explored in the course. Why did you select this specific event? How has this event shaped American history? What did you learn about this event that you did not know before taking this course?
