1) WHAT WERE THE INTERNATIONAL CAUSES OF THE GREAT
DEPRESSION?
The Great Depression begun in 1929 and ended in 1939. It is regarded as the worst
economic depress to have ever hit the United States of America. One of the international
causes of the Great Depression is the American Economic Policy with Europe. The
introduction of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff meant that America became protectionist for the
local companies. This made other countries refrain from carrying any economic trade
with the US. Other countries even retaliated against the US.
Another international cause of the Great Depression is the fact that after the war came to
an end in 1918, the European countries owed a lot of money to the American banks.
Some of these countries were not able to repay the debts and this is believed to be a major
cause of the Great Depression
