Select one example of conservation and one example of preservation from either Ch. 11 or 12 of Environmental Science. Your example can be based on a wilderness area, a biological resource (plants or animals), a natural resource (mineral, energy, and so on), or an environmental law presented within these chapters.

Write 50 words in response to each bulleted item, using one reputable source and your textbook to develop your answers:

• Describe your examples. Why are these examples of either conservation or preservation? In other words, how does the conservation example successfully manage the resource so that it can be used indefinitely? How does the preservation example successfully set aside the resource so that it is left wild and untouched?
• Why is the preservation and conservation of natural resources critical to protecting biodiversity?
• Why is protecting biodiversity important?
• Some biologists think protecting keystone species would help preserve biological diversity in an ecosystem. Do you agree? Why or why not?
