Mr. and Mrs. Smith have been married for 50 years. They’ve lived in the same house for 40, and take pride in the fact that it’s been paid in full and valued at around 200,000. They have no debt, but only $25,000 in savings plus pension received from their retirement. Mrs. Smith was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and needs care 24 hours a day. At first, Mr. Smith thought he could take care of her but quickly realized this was an impossibility. After careful deliberation he decided to admit his wife to a sub-acute nursing care facility where they could provide her with care. Money is tight. Mr. Smith does not want to sell the house, but knows his wife needs care.

Write a paragraph describing Mr. Smith’s options as well as the pros and cons of those options. Place this in the Week 14, Chapter 15 Reality Check dropbox.
