Topic: Addressing Mental Health Stigma Through the Use of Media Primes
The Problem
People who suffer mental illnesses may believe that they have been isolated from others, that
their illnesses define them, and that others no longer regard them as unique people but rather as
the preconceptions connected to their problem (Langworthy & Brouwer 2019).
Project Type
The results of this study’s implications could be used to show how media can either increase or
decrease the stigma associated with mental illness.
Qualitative Research Questions
1. Would you keep in touch with a friend in the future who would suffer a mental health
issue? Why?
2. Would you be open to working with someone who has a mental health issue in the future.
Why?
3. Would you be open to sharing a home in the future with a person who is experiencing
mental health issues. Why?
Quantitative Research Questions
1. Have you been identified with a mental illness?
2. Do you recognize an individual who has been identified as suffering from a mental
illness?
3. How frequently do you experience the feeling that you would be happier dead as well as
hurting yourself?

Primary Research
I will collect original quantitative data through a survey. I will give the survey to college students
and graduates aged 16- 50 years. The survey will be anonymous, and people of this age will
