Advocacy for the Vulnerable Groups
Nurses’ primary role is to care for the healthcare needs of people. While the role may
sound simple and straightforward, it does not just end with patients’ treatment. Nurses also
have to offer preventive services advocacy and other functions that lead to them being
respected and trusted. Students of nursing have to prepare for their advocacy roles because,
through the role, they influence policies to better their working environments and the welfare
of the vulnerable (Tangcharoensathien et al., 2018). The US’s vulnerable groups include the
minority races, the LGBTQ, and the disabled people, among others. Nurses have to advocate
for the vulnerable people’s needs to ensure that there is equitability and fairness in healthcare
provision and accessibility.
The course has enabled me to learn about the importance of my advocacy role as a
nurse. While I have always known that as a nurse, I have to represent the community’s needs,
I had always underestimated my responsibility to the vulnerable. Vulnerable groups are
