concert review

Instructions

Review length. 800-1000 words (4-5 double spaced, word–processed pages) Just a reminder… review must be of classical music concerts –the kind of music that we study in Music 100. Review should include the following: (please do not use the Mozart’s symphony 40, and it must be a live performance, can not be the video online)

1) Date of performance

2) Venue (location)

3) Type of performance or performing ensemble (symphony, chamber music, opera, vocal recital, choral concert, etc.)

4) Program (a list of the pieces performed, not necessarily the physical, printed program)

5) Names of soloists

6) Background on some (or all) of the composers represented (the first place to check is the program notes followed by your text). Place the program (briefly) in some sort of historical or stylistic context.

7) If it is possible (on a student recital, for example), interview a performer or two to get their impressions of the program (i.e., degree of difficulty, challenges particular composers or compositions represent, etc.).

8) Your own subjective impressions of the performance.
