Assessment 3 Instructions: Standards Development Organization Research

In this assessment, you will complete a 2-3 page table looking at several standards development organizations
(SDOs) to determine characteristics of the standards they develop and their use in healthcare.
Introduction
In your role as data analyst, you will classify data points and review the use of data standards for classification. Data
must go through a process of collection, measurement, analysis, and reporting before it becomes useful information.
To accomplish this process, data has to be defined and classified (structured); often, data points must be
established. The latter is particularly common in relation to data collected and retrieved from electronic health
systems. Standards development organizations (SDOs) help set guidelines to standardize the use of health care data
points.
