Comparing the Nursing Specialties
The nursing specialty selected for my career is Family Nurse Practice (FNP), leading me
to be a Family Nurse Practitioner. AGPCNP is the other nursing specialty I would pursue in
place of FNP. FNPs, in their course of education and practice, is uniquely trained to care for
patients of all ages in primary health. In the FNP’s day-to-day activities, they are responsible for
diagnosing and treating patients, performing physical tests, prescribing patient medications, and
performing diagnostic testing. An FNP specializes in family medicine, treating acute and chronic
illnesses that fall under primary care (Barnes, 2015).
Adult-gerontology nurses are specifically trained to focus their clinical practice on
treating patients within the adolescence to the adult and advanced age ranges. Adult-gerontology
nurse practitioners (AGNP) further pursue specialized education after being certified as RNs.
Therefore, AGNP nurses must have the necessary knowledge and skills for working in settings
