You are a new graduate nurse and it is your first day working in a residential aged care facility. As you are walking down the corridor to mrs thorpe, an 80 year old women with dementia you hear her screaming in her language as you approach her room you do witness another nurse ( kerry), swearing and yelling at mrs thorpe ordering her to speak english and pulling her along by the elbow very roughly while taking her to the shower. You walk by quietly unsure of what to do when this is occurring.

You tell the charge nurse of the incident and she says that she is frightened of nurse kerry and does not want to get in trouble or be bullied, the charge nurse informs the director of the facility and the director speaks to you as a witness to the incident and the client involved (who has felt threatened by nurse kerry for some time but has been too frightened to speak up).

Further investigations revealed that a number of nurses and carers have witnessed nurse kerry bullying clients and others in the health
Care team. No physical violence has been witnessed.
The director is close friends with nurse kerry and is aware this nurse had had numerous personal issues.

* Must conduct yourself in accordance with relevant laws to the profession of nurse?
* Unlawful and unethical actions taken against the patient?

Brief Paragraph:

* Kerry the nurse did not address Mrs thorpe’s situation what she was doing wrong/ why it was wrong- how she could improve?
* What codes of practice were breached?
Nurse Kerry, has displayed unethical and unlawful behaviour towards the patient and has breached the Nursing codes of conduct ‘Professional behaviour,’ where she has not shown any respect or compassion towards Mrs Thorpe. Through physical and verbal abuse, Nurse Kerry has demonstrated inappropriate behaviour by unsuitable grabbing and swearing at Mrs. Thorpe.

Conclusion:
* Personal space ?
* Unethical behaviour ?
* What she did wrong ?
In conclusion nurse Kerry was performing her duties in an unprofessional manner due to the way she treated Mrs Thorpe and carried out treatment on her. Her personal space was violated through physical force and verbal abuse this is evident through her demanding demeanor towards Mrs Thorpe (demanding her to speak english). Consequently, nurse Kerry’s attitude towards the patient (Mrs Thorpe) demonstrated an evidently unethical behaviour, of which does not comply to the modern standards of nursing. She did this by yelling constant abuse at the patient and forcing her to follow here by physically grabbing her arm and pulling her to the shower, basically forcing her to do something she wasn’t happy with complying to.
