Description

1. An overview/explanation of what temperament and goodness of fit is. Use class sources (textbook/videos) to support and cite your source.

2. Respond to each of the 3 questions/scenarios from parents (listed below). Make sure you talk in language that parents can understand but also relates to course content.

3. Provide 2 additional resources (websites, YouTube or TedTalk videos) for parents to review that matches the information you have provided. These need to be different resources (videos, etc) than the one’s included in the course module. Don’t just list the sources but give a brief overview of each one -including what is the most useful information from each one.

Parent Concern 1 – Keahi is four years old. Keahi is very nervous and scared while transitioning into the preschool classroom in the morning. Keahi does not like being separated from their parent at drop off. Keahi immediately clings to the parent’s leg and starts crying and begging for them not to leave. Keahi’s parents want to know if this behavior is normal and what the school suggests to help make the transition smoother and less stressful for Keahi and the parents. Explain what normal temperamental traits Keahi is displaying. What are some strategies you suggest for helping Keahi? How should the parents, and the staff at your program adapt to help Keahi.

Parent Concern 2 – Candy is a three-year-old child. Candy enjoys preschool and transitions easily every morning. Candy looks forward to playing with her peers at preschool although she sometimes has challenges sharing toys and materials. She has a hard time waiting her turn and tends to be switching activities often. Candy’s parents are concerned about her short attention span and that she gets very upset (throws tantrums) and sometimes behaves aggressive when she does not get her way. Explain what normal temperamental traits Candy is displaying. What are some strategies you suggest for helping Candy with her challenging behaviors. What can the school do to support Candy and what should the parents do at home?

3. Parent Concern 3 – Juan, is a five-year-old boy. Juan is a generally happy kid. He shares well with his peers at preschool and can play in the blocks and Lego area for long amounts of time. He seems to enjoy circle time but is quieter than most during snack and group times. Juan has started to complain to his parents that he doesn’t want to go to preschool anymore. He says he is bored and he doesn’t get much attention from the teachers. He has started to throw tantrums at home before leaving for preschool but calms down and transitions easily to the classroom. The parents want to understand why Juan has had this change in behavior and what the staff and parents can do to help Juan enjoy preschool again. Explain what normal temperamental traits Juan is displaying. What can the school do to support Juan and what should the parents do at home?
