The purpose of this assignment is to introduce, or reacquaint you, with the tools needed for basic research in film and literature. In a hands-on approach, you are asked to choose one of the following topics and compile a dossier consisting of five entries. You should include books, newspaper articles, scholarly
articles, interviews, reviews, and any other relevant sources. (If you were to write a paper about the topic, this would be the key bibliography to use).

Topic 8: Hellboy on screen: The creative collaboration of Mike Mignola and Guillermo del Toro.

Your dossier should be divided in two parts:
1. A one-page preface describing the topic in a clear manner. It will cover the facts of your topic.
Your bibliography of choice will provide those facts, and it should be integrated in your
description. Do not present your bibliographical items as a list. They are part of your preface,
not separate items whose relevance you explain individually.
2. A one-page bibliography comprising five entries. You can refer to any manual of style,
including the online resources of Oviatt Library, to compose a bibliography using the MLA

format, 8th edition. It is not an annotated bibliography, just a list of sources arranged alphabetically by author.
This assignment does not require any interpretation of facts. It will show whether you can gather
information, arrange it meaningfully, understand its content and present it logically. It is a report, not an
essay where you are proposing a thesis and offering a demonstration.
The grade for this paper will be based on the form and content of your materials.
Bear in mind that for this paper to be successful you will have to accomplish four very different tasks: 1)
gather information using the library catalog and the databases demonstrated in the library workshop; 2)
process the materials, that is, reading them to discern their relevance and pertinence; 3) organize the
materials according to the instructions of the prompt; 4) revise the layout and content of the various items,
so that you present the information in a clear, well organized and consistent manner.
