The first nursing care practice offered to a patient will involve screening the individual
for obesity or overweight. The screening will involve assessing the patient’s medical history,
which will aim at identifying the determinants for obesity, including psychosocial factors. In
particular, the assessment will evaluate the patient’s psychological health and psychiatric
conditions, such as situational depression, in order to determine the mental constructs that trigger
the individual to engage in unhealthy eating behaviors. Furthermore, social factors have also
been show to contribute to obesity and overweight where people living under poverty being are
seen to involve in unhealthy eating behaviors and engage in low physical activities (ACPHES,
2019). As well, the screening will involve Body Mass Index assessment to determine whether the
