Importance of the recognition of one’s personal values

Importance of the recognition of one’s personal values when working in the field of Human
services
Recognition of personal values among workers guides themto understand that different
people have different attitudes and they may as well have their own values (Sosik, 2005). Workers
and all other stakeholders of the organization are therefore aware that they may face situations
where their individual values differ from values of other people they may be interacting with
(Sosik, 2005). In such situations, it becomes helpful in thatthe workers are careful notto impose
their own values on clients or even on their fellow workers (Sosik, 2005). Thisawareness enables
workers to serve people in relation to what is right and not based on their set of values. It is also
helpful in ensuring the comfort of clients at the workplace since they feel that their own values are
being considered while they are being served (Sosik, 2005). This promotes good conduct in the
workplacebecause everyone’s beliefs andvalues are respected.
Potential ProblemsthatMay Arise if ProfessionalBoundaries are notRespected
Manipulation: Clients may manipulate a new workerwho breaks boundaries especially if
they are aware of the required behavior of the workers (Cooper, 2012).
