August 1797, Mary Shelley was born in London, England, to parents Godwin
William (Philosopher) and Wollstonecraft Mary (Feminist), who are 1800s writers. Her father
wrote the popular political justice book in 1793 that critically highlighted ills in the community
and the ethical treatment of the common people. Caleb Williams is the other popular book by
Godwin that examined class differences and the ill use of power by the governing regime (Mekler
& Morrison, 2010). The leading feminist, Mary Wollstonecraft, was her mother, who voiced her
views through the renowned work in 1792, A Vindication of the Rights of Women. In 1797, the two
got married to guard the rights of the imminent child. Mary and William married for only five
months when their daughter Mary was born. However, Mary Wollstonecraft passed on due to
complications four weeks after giving birth (Mekler & Morrison, 2010). For this reason, Mary
Shelley never met her mother. When young Mary was four years old, his father got married again
